To-Die-For Game Rooms

From an indoor playground for the little ones to an oenophile’s dream cellar, game rooms are the one place in the house (or basement, garage or yard) where function needn’t trump fun, and you can have or do anything your imagination allows. (See Ten More To-Die-For Game Rooms below)

What is your game?

How about a real dungeon for Dungeons and Dragons? Want your own private Downton Abbey where the riff raff can’t judge your inimitable sophistication? How about an arcade where the token cards never run dry? A rubber room to bounce off the inhibitions of the day? Or a tropical greenhouse reading room?

One family with young children wanted a comfortable place for the kids to play, but wanted to be able to enjoy the space with them. They had Teakwood Builders create cuddly nooks to separate sections of the game room that also serve to dampen sound.Home Game Rooms: Saratoga Springs general contractor Teakwood Builders used a built-in cubby to give adults and kids a space to enjoy. An Albany family had Teakwood Builders build game room cubby seats so their kids would have comfortable spots to cuddle when sharing the space with adults. The nooks also serve to dampen sound and provide storage.

Teakwood Builders is currently renovating one basement into a sophisticated private “club” lounge, where carefully lit custom art glass belies the subterranean location.

Another client reimagined the basement as a manly Irish-style bar with darts and billiards, complete with a Guinness kegerator behind the custom cherry bar. See All Fun and Games in our Portfolio for more photos and details.

Cherry judge’s paneling gives this basement turned “pub” a rich, manly feel.

Teakwood designed and built this multi-function bar area. Custom cherry cabinets boast oil-rubbed bronze hardware, upper glass panels and discreet undercabinet lighting concealed by valance trim. Wine storage fits neatly beneath the television cabinet. Cut out of the granite countertop is a beer tap for the kegerator installed below.

Another Teakwood Builders renovation project combined a Loudonville client’s love of wine and the Italian countryside to transform their basement into a stunning Tuscan wine cellar with trompe l’oeil murals, natural stonework, bespoke molding and creative lighting and storage. See Tuscan Wine Cellar in our Portfolio for more photos and details.

A unique barrel-vaulted ceiling is illuminated by low-voltage accent lighting, concealed by tailored molding. Teakwood Builders repurposed wine casks as part of a decorative wall display wine cellar wall treatment.

A tasting room features cultured stone walls, natural slate floors, wrought-iron candle wall sconces and solid wood doors with hand-milled trims in Teakwood Builders' transformation of a Loudonville, NY, basement into a Tuscan wine cellar.
