Honoring Heritage, Embracing Modern Living
On the shores of Fourth Lake in the Adirondacks, this contemporary retreat was designed as a modern interpretation of the region’s classic summer camps. Collaborating with Balzer & Tuck Architecture and Teakwood Builders, the homeowners envisioned a home that would preserve the intimate, communal spirit of their family’s historic cottage while incorporating high-end materials and thoughtful architectural details. The result is a welcoming retreat where indoor and outdoor living flow seamlessly, inviting neighbors and family to gather in true Adirondack tradition.
Natural Douglas fir walls, exposed beams, and a stone fireplace ground the home in rustic warmth, while expansive windows, floating stair treads, and sleek black accents bring a contemporary edge. A central kitchen, dining, and living area open to a screened porch, creating a flexible entertaining space for spontaneous gatherings. By reimagining the original camp footprint and weaving in personal touches—from preserved architectural elements to custom details that highlight light and views—this new home embodies both its storied past and a vibrant future for generations to enjoy.
