Subterranean Space Reimagined as Sumptuous Speakeasy
This striking basement transformation on a Saratoga Springs horse farm elevates below-grade design with a showstopping New Orleans–inspired bar at its heart. Designed to impress and entertain, the space balances loftiness and intimacy by creatively raising the floor and lowering the ceiling. The sinuous bar seats seven and is fronted by warmly lit floating glass and wood shelves, while a cushioned tartan-backed banquette creates a cozy clubby nook. Innovative steel-framed tempered glass windows retract discreetly into wall pockets, connecting the bar to an adjacent golf simulator, enhancing flow and interaction.
The room’s sophisticated palette and rich textures blend lacquered black woven wallcoverings, maraschino-red leather, plaid mosaic marble flooring, and polished pewter countertops. Custom geometric coffered ceilings, cleverly concealed storage panels, and multifunctional metal fixtures that serve as both uplighting and stemware racks add depth and function. The step-down transition to the adjacent recreation space is marked by steel doors embossed with the farm’s horsehead logo, completing a luxurious basement oasis where style and socializing come together seamlessly.
