Historic Renovations

A stone retaining wall made it possible for Teakwood Builders to create a multilevel two-car garage with room for a guest apartment upstairs. Timber brackets, a natural wood door, cedar siding and stucco bring the carriage house into historical concert with the home without directly mimicking the older materials.

Rich, natural materials and finishes help this sitting porch fireplace comfortably maintain the character of this historic home year round.

Teakwood balanced the scale and emphasized the more useful entrance by adding a Greek Revival porch with an open portico, a wall of Palladian windows and twin support columns.

Substantial columns and wide steps with mahogany treads establish the home’s new rear entry access. The screened porch to the right – also new – features fine panels and pilaster details on the exterior that are repeated within the room, glimpsed here through the screen.
